The KC Select 96/97 girls traveled to Indianapolis, IN to compete in one of the most competitive tournaments in the region, the Murray Cup, hosted by the Carmel United Soccer Club.  The U11 age group was one of the most competitive age groups in the tournament with 21 teams applying.  The girls were given a top seed in one of the brackets in the top division.  In other brackets in this age there were top-ranked teams from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio South, including teams ranked in the top 10 in the region and top 25 in the nation.  Once again, though, the girls rose to the occasion, going undefeated in pool play, beating Carmel United Premier Blue 3-0, beating  Dynamo 97 Red 3-1, and beating top-ranked Ohio Elite Academy 4-1.  In the quarterfinals, the girls faced a very fast and physical Westside United Green 97 team, but ground out another shutout 1-0, putting them on a collision course with their friends from Illinois, the Knockouts II.  The girls scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the game and held onto a 2-1 win.  In the final, they were up against a very skilled, possession oriented team in the top ranked Carmel United 97 Academy team, which had also gone undefeated in pool play.  The girls played a fast and physical game which resulted in a 2-0 win to take the championship cup.  Along the way, the girls defeated teams ranked in their respective states, the region and the nation as follows:

  • Ohio Elite Academy - ranked #2 in Ohio South and #9 in Region II
  • Westside United Green 97 - ranked #5 in Indiana
  • Knockouts II - ranked #3 in Illinois, #7 in Region II and #20 in the nation
  • Carmel United 97 Academy - ranked #2 in Indiana

This is a great result, showing that the KC Select 96/97 girls can compete with some of the top teams in the region.  Congratulations girls!!

The KC Select 96/97 girls and the KC Select Renegades - Travalent girls both finished first in their respective leagues in the KC Metro League for the Spring 2008 season.  The KC Select 96/97 girls, playing up to the U12A1 division finished with a record of 5W-0L-3T playing against some very good and big U12 teams not only from the Kansas City area, but also from Arkansas.  The 96/97 girls scored 11 goals while only conceding 3!

The KC Select Renegades Travalent girls also played up to the U12B1 division in the Metro League, and finished with a perfect 8-0-0 record, scoring 43 goals and only giving up 3.

Congratulations to both teams on a very successful, undefeated Spring 2008 league season!!

Renegades are Finalists in KC Select Midwest Mother's Day Classic        May 2008

 kcstar[1].JPG

The Renegades played in the KC Select Midwest Mother's Day Classic at Fountain Bluff Sports Complex in Liberty, Missouri and had a great tournament.  The girls again went undefeated in their bracket, beating a U12 Blue Valley Stars Galaxy team 4-1, beating a very good Toro Chaos team, one of the top teams in the state of Nebraska, 2-1, and beating a large and quick KC Blaze Blue Angels team 2-0 to win the bracket.  In the final they would face the Blue Valley Stars Arsenal from Kansas.  This would not be the Renegades day, however, as the BVSC team won the final 3-0.  Although the Renegades had their opportunities, they could not finish them and had to settle for the finalist trophy.  Still a pretty good result on a great weekend of soccer!

KC Select 96/97 are Semi-finalists in Tulsa Thunder Friendship Cup      April 2008

tulsa_2008[1].JPG

The KC Select 96/97 girls made their first trip to Tulsa, OK for the Tulsa Thunder Friendship Cup.  The girls played up an age to the U12 11 v. 11 division, and were matched up against some very good teams from Oklahoma and Arkansas in pool play.  Not to fear, though, because the girls once again went 3-0 in pool play, defeating the Tulsa Thunder Germany team 3-1; next they defeated the Bixby Highlanders, a big and physical team, 2-0; and finally they defeated an equally large Arkansas Rush U12 girls team 2-0.  Their success put them on a collision course with their friends TSC 97 Red in the semi-final.  In a pretty even match, a couple of bad hops of the ball and some unlucky plays led to a 3-0 loss to a very good TSC team.  The TSC Red team went on to win the final against a very large Little Rock Futbol Club team.

Renegades win Champions Challenge    March 2008

Renegade (5).JPG

The Renegades traveled to Springfield, Missouri once again for the Champions Challenge, but this time they were playing 11 v 11 in their own age group, U11.  They were pitted against some very good teams, all from Oklahoma.  The Renegades went 4-0, winning another title, and scoring 6 goals while only conceding 1.  Defense was really a key in this tournament as the team posted three shutouts in pool play.  The final pool game, agaisnt TSC 97 Black, resulted in a 0-0 tie after regulation and 2 overtime periods.  This of course led to a PK shootout.  Alex made a few saves in the shootout and our shooters hit dead on, sending the girls to the final to face HFC Gibson, a team that the girls had shut out 2-0 in pool play.  In the final, the game ended 1-1 in a very competitive and physical game after regulation and overtime - and guess what - another shootout.  This time, the shootout would determine the tournament champion.  Both keepers did well on their lines, each making one save.  The shootout came down to a final, dramatic shot by a Hurricane player against Alex C.  The shot slotted off to Alex's right, and she made a quick dive to the right to stop the ball point blank in her gloves.  Great job Renegades on another tournament victory!!

KC Select 96/97 are Finalists in Thompson Fall Classic   October 2007

 IMG_5920[1].JPG

The KC Select 96/97 girls traveled to Springfield, Missouri to play up in age to the U12 11 v 11 division against some very powerful, regionally successful U12 teams.  This relatively new team of girls was a little nervous about playing such powerful U12 teams, but their concern soon turned out to be misplaced as they won their bracket by winning two games and one tie.  The girls beat a good Hurricane Futbol Club - Gibson U12 team 4-1, and then beat a very big and powerful Springfield Soccer Club Red team 3-2.  This led to a showdown with the final team in the bracket, the Norman Fury from Norman, OK.  The Norman team was ranked #3 in the state of Oklahoma in the U12 age group, so the KC Select 96/97 girls knew they had their work cut out for them.  They played lights out against the larger and more physical team to end in a 1-1 draw, which sent them through to the final.  In the final, they were matched up against one of the best U12 teams from the Kansas City area, the Blue Valley Stars United.  The girls played their hearts out, but eventually lost 2-0 to the Blue Valley team.  There was nothing to be ashamed of as this was a great result and a true indication of how really competitive this team is going to be!

The Renegades played in the Just for Girls Fall Invite tournament in Des Moines, IA for the first time.  This was a well run tournament and the weather and fields were fabulous.  Once again, the Renegades girls swept their bracket, beating CSA Fuerza from Lincoln, NE 3-0; beating WDM Storm from Des Moines 7-0, and topping Gladiator Fusion from Omaha, NE 4-3.  Next up was Bangu Tsunami Blue, from MN, in the final.  Bangu had also swept their bracket.  The girls lost in the final 3-0 to the Bangu team in a game that was closer than the score.  The girls played well in the final but were ultimately overpowered and went home with finalist trophies.  Great job girls!!

Renegades are Finalists in KC Cup   April 2007

KC_Cup_07[1].JPG

The Renegades played in the KC Cup tournament in Raytown, Missouri and again made it to another tournament final.  The girls controlled their bracket, going 3-0 and defeating the Arkansas state cup champs Ingram Saints 4-0, defeating the KCFC Blast 7-1 and topping the KC Force United 4-2 to advance to the final.  TSC 97 Red from Tulsa, Oklahoma, a team that the Renegades are very familiar with, had won the other bracket, leading to a showdown with TSC in the final.  The final occurred amidst what seemed like hurricane-force winds at the Fountain Bluff sports complex in Liberty, Missouri.  Neither team could get anything going in the intense winds, however the Renegades struck first off a nice slotting goal from Sammy N.  As the game progressed, however, TSC was able to find the back of the net three times with their speed, leading to a disappointing 3-1 loss in the final.  The girls played very well, however, and continue to show substantial improvement from week to week.

The Renegades traveled to and competed in their first tournament in St. Louis, the MC United College Showcase.  The girls soon saw that they stacked up quite well against the St. Louis premier soccer teams by winning their bracket by defeating the Woodchips Soccer Club U10 girls by a score of 3-0, defeating a St. Louis Soccer Club U10 team by a score of 4-1, and playing the Vardar-Missouri team to a 2-2 tie.  The Renegades advanced to the championship to face the Lou Fusz Sanfilippo team.  The two teams played a scrappy, physical game to a 0-0 regulation and overtime draw on a cold and blustery St. Louis evening.  This result of course led to a penalty kick shootout.  The Renegades goalkeeper was tough, blocking 4 out of the 5 Lou Fusz penalty kicks, however they were able to land the one that gave Lou Fusz the win.  Heartbroken though they were, everyone was very proud of their performance, which showed they could play with some of the best in the state.

The KC Select Renegades competed in the Tournament in the Woods in Raytown, Missouri.  The tournament began with a close and physical 2-0 loss to a very good KHMAC Power team.  The girls regrouped and knocked off the Lou Fusz team from St. Louis by a score of 2-1.  The girls also lost to a very skilled and quick TSC Red team, but advanced to the semi-finals on points.  In the semi-final, the girls fell again to the KHMAC Power by a score of 3-1 after the score was tied 1-1 at halftime.  Overall the girls had a very good tournament.
